Personalized Support

Including residents from the three other Accueil Bonneau buildings, this project will bring the total number of individuals supported by Accueil Bonneau professionals in Greater Montreal to 258.

This approach is also more cost-effective. In fact, it costs approximately $20,000 per year to help someone transition out of homelessness and into stable housing, compared to $60,000 per year for emergency services that do not improve their long-term situation (Éric Latimer, Homelessness, visible and hidden: Improving our policy and clinical responses, 2018).

A Unique Diversity

This project's innovative model will foster a unique form of social diversity, as residents who are not experiencing homelessness (20% of all tenants in the building) will live alongside individuals who are currently homeless or at risk of homelessness. Accueil Bonneau will also conduct a study to assess the impact of this model on individuals experiencing homelessness.

Harmonious coexistence with the surrounding neighborhood is also a key priority for us. That’s why our outreach workers patrol the area and ensure that social harmony is maintained among people experiencing homelessness, local business owners, residents, and tourists.

A Prevention-Focused Project

At Accueil Bonneau, we serve three profiles of individuals: those experiencing homelessness, those at risk of homelessness, and those who have recently exited homelessness.

This new housing building is one of a kind, as it will enable cohabitation between individuals experiencing homelessness and those at risk of becoming homeless.

By providing them with personalized and professional support early on, we will help these vulnerable individuals avoid falling into the cycle of homelessness.

In 2022
418

In 2022, 418 individuals exited homelessness and did not return, thanks to the innovative support model advocated by Accueil Bonneau.

A Proven Method

This model, based on social reintegration through access to housing, has proven effective worldwide in permanently breaking the cycle of homelessness, all while being more cost-effective for public finances.
A notable example of this success is Helsinki, Finland, where the number of people experiencing homelessness has dropped by nearly 80% in just 40 years.

Because Real Stories Happen Here

Three residents of Accueil Bonneau shared their experiences living in our housing buildings in a report by Clara Loiseau from the Journal de Montréal. Here are some of their testimonies:

Daniel Simoneau: “When I arrived here, it gave me wings to rebuild my life and start fresh. It’s a stepping stone.”

Frank Lambert: “Now, my accounts are up to date, my taxes are up to date. I’m more comfortable managing my affairs. I even got a job as a maintenance worker at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal.”
